Culinary Arts

Mise en place, chiffonade, and beurre blanc, are just a taste of the terms and skills students will learn in the Catalyst culinary arts program. The curriculum is industry-inspired and taught by professionals who have a passion for the culinary arts. Our classroom is a state-of-the-art kitchen designed to teach students the knowledge and skills needed to become a professional. Here are a few of the skills students will walk away with.  

  • Catering events & Event management planning.  
  • Helping stock, and staff our in-house café.  
  • Variety of bakery & pastry preparations methods related to yeast breads, pastries, fillings, cakes, and more!  
  • Industry & workplace skills related to the care and use of commercial foodservice equipment.  
  • Basics of a restaurant, hospitality, and small business operations. 

All the skills, knowledge, and professional experience you develop at the Catalyst will give you the head start you need as you pursue a career or post-secondary education. Come experience for yourself all that the Catalyst Culinary Arts program has to offer!  

Advanced Culinary Arts: Prostart

Ready to run the café and pick the menu? Cater events and work on projects for companies and the community? Students will be trained for career opportunities in the food service/culinary arts industry. Students will have the opportunity to learn and practice safety and sanitation procedures, and to use and maintain commercial food service equipment. They will perform quantity food preparation as it relates to catering, bakery, restaurant, hospitality, and fast-food business operations. Concurrent enrollment credit through Weber State University is available for those interested. 

Prerequisites: Foods & Nutrition 1 and 2

Baking & Pastry 

Serious about taking your skills to the next level? This class introduces Culinary Arts students to another aspect of the Culinary Arts industry, baking and pastry. Students will gain experience with baking terminology, equipment, formula conversions, and practice methods for creating yeast breads, pastries, fillings, cakes, and cookie production. Students can practice industry workplace skills, food safety and understand the opportunities for careers within the baking and pastry industry. Concurrent enrollment credit through Weber State University is available for those interested.
