Audio Production
Audio Production
Everything needs sound: movies, music, video games, television, websites, and so on. If you're excited about a career in audio production, the Davis Catalyst Center's Audio Production Program is for you.

In Audio Essentials- Digital Audio 1 class students understand the basics of recording, mixing and producing content in a state-of-the-art recording studio. Students will learn to record and mix sound through hands-on assignments in some of the following areas: radio production, podcasting, live sound, studio recording, music production, etc. This course will cover the basics of audio production, Avid Pro Tools and other Digital Audio Workstations (DAW), multi-track music recording, the science of acoustics, and basic understanding of audio recording equipment.
Students will continue the learning in Audio Production- Digital Audio 2 class where they will work with other students and Catalyst programs to build your portfolio and jumpstart your career in Audio. This course builds upon the basic skills from Audio Essentials. Students should deepen their understanding of Avid Pro Tools, audio production, multi-track music recording, etc. and how to correctly use audio recording equipment. Students will create original content through hands-on, real-world projects in partnership with industry and business partners. These projects could be in any of the following: Sound for film and TV, radio production, podcasting, live sound, studio recording, music production, etc.
Industry Certifications: Students can also earn a Pro Tools 101 and 110 industry certification from Avid.
*The recommended prerequisite is Digital Media, if available your school. Many students choose this course after having taken the Digital Media course at their local high school.
Graphic Design
Graphic Design
Learn to express yourself creatively and tell a story. Good design is about sending a message to an audience that speaks to them and encourages them to take action.
If you are interested in graphics, design, and creativity, the Davis Catalyst Center can help you improve your skills and prepare for the future. Once you begin the Graphic Design program, you will have the opportunity to create projects for local businesses, build a portfolio, and work with other creatives.

Graphic Design (Commercial Art)
In this course students will have the opportunity to work with, and complete projects for, local businesses in group projects. Students will also learn advanced graphics concepts, use multiple software (including the Adobe Creative Cloud), build their portfolio, collaborate with industry mentors, earn industry software certifications, and more.
Industry Certifications: Students can earn industry certifications in Adobe Creative Cloud software
(Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.)
Prerequisite one of the following is required: Digital Graphic Arts Intro, Digital Photography
* Recommended Courses: To be successful in this program, students should be familiar with basic graphic design concepts and programs. This could be from previous courses taken and/or personal interest and learning. Contact Mr. Scholer with any questions.
Video Production
Video Production
Stop watching great videos and produce your own! Video content has taken center stage for learning, solving problems, exploring hobbies, and of course, entertainment. Learn the art of video production hands-on at the Davis Catalyst Center. Students will work in a new state-of-the-art video production studio equipped with an LED wall as the crown jewel. Sign up for class, and we’ll show you how the LED wall works, be prepared to be blown away. Classes will be taught by industry professionals who have a passion for video. Here is a list of some of the industry skills students will learn.
- Storytelling, scriptwriting, storyboarding, shot list, and blocking
- Videography including camera functions and operations
- Shot composition, camera movements and angles
- Basic lighting principals, key light, fill light, and backlight
- Editing footage using AVID and Adobe Creative Suite
- Exporting video including settings and asset management
- Work with local companies to produce video content
The goal of this program is to have each student walk away with a demo reel of their work to enter the industry or continue their education in college. They will also have the opportunity to earn industry certifications and earn college credit.
The Video Production 1 course teaches students professional video production skills and concepts in the video making process. Students will dive into learning camera basics & techniques, shot composition, lighting, audio, storytelling, and editing. Students will use these skills and concepts to produce how-to videos, commercials, music videos, documentaries, and more. Students will also work closely with industry partners to produce professional work for a portfolio and demo reel. This is a project-based learning style course teaching students' teamwork and personal accountability required to work on set and with professional clients.
Students will continue to advanced Video Production 2 course that teaches professional techniques such as effects, color correction & grading, lighting, audio, scripting, editing, and more. With the skills they have learned, and using industry standard equipment, students will work with industry and business partners on real world projects to create videos that meet the needs of their clients. Students will finish the course with a demo reel of their work.
Industry Certifications: Students can earn industry certifications for Adobe Premiere and Avid Media Composer.
Concurrent enrollment credit can be earned from Utah Valley University.
