Sarah Barker - Pharmacy Technician
Sarah Barker has spent her life using her personal and career experiences to help lead various pharmacy teams since 2003. As the sister of a kidney transplant recipient of her younger brother at the age of 5, she saw first hand how medications can affect every facet of one’s life as well as the lives of their loved ones.
She knows there is no end to learning, so she continues to educate herself on advanced and specialized technician roles to provide the most comprehensive program that works for each of her student’s individual needs. She has experience as a pharmacy benefits specialist and as a Pharmacy technician in retail pharmacy, bubble packaging, compounding and in-patient pharmacy. For the past 6 years Sarah has worked as the lead Pharmacy Technician with the University of Utah Pharmacy Primary Care Services Team, working collaboratively with providers to manage chronic diseases at primary care clinics throughout the health system. With the University of Utah she led her group of pharmacy technicians in getting published in ASHP Practice Advancement Initiative : This case study is a resource that supports the goals of PAI and the critical roles pharmacy technicians have in patient care.
In 2019 she had the opportunity to present at the 2019 STFM Conference on PRACTICE & QUALITY IMPROVEMENT on an Overview and Assessment of Integration of Pharmacy Technician Services in Primary Care.
She was a recipient of the 2019 circle of distinction award with the University of Utah Health Care for continued and consistent commitment to excellence, and a focus on creating an exceptional patient experience.
Sarah currently enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and three teenagers. She is excited to share her passion for being a Pharmacy Technician with her students.
