About Us

The Catalyst Center is the place where innovation, collaboration and education meet. Our CTE magnet school brings Davis School District students, local business, and industry partners together.   

The Catalyst Center is part of the nationally recognized CAPS Network (Center for Advanced Professional Studies).

CAPS students fast forward to their future careers and are fully immersed in a professional culture where they develop critical thinking and problem solving skills by working in collaborative groups to complete real-world projects while being mentored by industry partners.

Our Students

Students who attend the Catalyst magnet from one of ten Davis District High Schools and are accepted through an application process. Students can focus studies in Business Marketing & Entrepreneurship/Capstone, Culinary Arts (Baking & Pastry or ProStart), Entertainment & Digital Media (Audio Production, Video Production, or Graphic Design), Computer Science (Cybersecurity, Game Development, Software Development/Advanced Programming, and Web Development), Construction Management, Drones (UAS: Piloting, Maintenance, & Capstone), Medical Assisting,  Pharmacy Tech, Introduction to Physical Therapy, Pilot & Aviation (Private Pilot and Air Transportation & Advance Weather Systems), Teaching as a Profession.  All course are double blocked and usually last 1 semester, with the exception of Medical Assisting and Pharmacy Tech which are full year programs. Our students are interested in balancing classroom learning with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a business setting.

The CAPS Network is designed to create rich and meaningful experiences for students, as well as partners. Programs that partner with the CAPS Network share best practices and connections with professional partners, post-secondary institutions and students. The Catalyst Center has six key guiding principles that unite, define, and guide the CAPS experience"

Profession-based Learning

Catalyst students work on real-world projects in collaboration with business and industry partners. Instructors create project-based learning experiences in a professional environment which prepare students for college and career.

Responsiveness

The Davis Catalyst Center supports high-skill and high-demand careers through ongoing innovation in curriculum development. Catalyst programs and services are based on local business and community needs.

Entrepreneurial Mindset

An innovative culture is key to fostering entrepreneurial learning and design thinking. Catalyst instructors create an environment where creative thinking and problem solving is encouraged.

Professional Skills Development

Professional skills are critical to providing students a competitive advantage in their post-secondary education and professional careers. The Catalyst provides unique experiences which allow students to cultivate transformative professional skills such as adaptability, understanding expectations, exhibiting initiative, and other essential business skills.

Self-Discovery and Exploration

Students realize their strengths and passions by exploring and experiencing potential professions. Catalyst students make informed decisions about their future, while learning to exhibit leadership.

Equity and Access

Davis School District students have equitable access to Catalyst programs in preparation for post-secondary education and high-skill high-demand careers.

"Jay Welk, Director of Career and Technical Education for the Davis School District's Catalyst Center [in 2022], shares how he worked with Ford AV to design and integrate state-of-the-art video and audio production facilities for the school. The project features a video production studio with a 20’(W) x 10’(H) curved LED (1.58 MM pixel pitch) screen with motion tracking integration with Unreal Engine, studio lighting, and a large video studio control room. For audio production, it includes 5 audio mixing studios with studio monitors and audio consoles, one foley audio recording studio, Apple computer lab, and additional extensive video and audio production gear."

Catalyst Center LEA-Specific Licenses 2024-2025

  • This school employs individuals holding an LEA-specific educator license and/or endorsement.

  • The following designations or levels apply to educator licenses, license areas (i.e.-elementary, secondary, special education), and content endorsements (i.e.-mathematics, music, Spanish, social studies):

Professional: the educator has completed an educator preparation program that includes content and pedagogical knowledge. This program may have been completed at a university or in an alternate pathway that was supported by school districts/charters and the Utah State Board of Education.                                                                                                                                               

Associate: The educator is currently completing an educator preparation program but has not yet completed all requirements for a Professional Educator license, license area, or endorsement. The educator is enrolled in a university-based or Local Education Agency (LEA)-based program. When the educator completes the program, they will have a professional level.                                                         

LEA-Specific: The educator has not completed an educator preparation and is not currently enrolled in one.
